Visitor visas
Temporary visas to visit Australia for tourism, family or business visitor activities.
OUR EXPERTISE
Visitor visas
A visitor visa is for a temporary stay. It is not a visa for work, and it is not a pathway that is lodged in place of a partner or parent visa.
Requirements
- The purpose is tourism, a family visit, or business visitor activities. Work is not permitted.
- The person is a genuine temporary entrant and has a reason to return home.
- They have funds for the stay.
- Health and character requirements apply where the visa stream requires them.
- The stay granted is the stay on the visa. It is not the same length for every applicant.
Which visitor visa
- Subclass 600 is the visitor visa, including the tourist, family and business visitor streams.
- Subclass 601 is the Electronic Travel Authority, for eligible passport holders.
- Subclass 651 is the eVisitor, for eligible passport holders.
- The passport decides which of these can be used.
A visit is not a residence visa
- A partner who wants to live in Australia looks at a partner visa, not a visitor visa, for that purpose.
- A parent who wants to settle looks at a parent visa.
- We advise on a visitor visa where the stay is genuinely temporary, including where a person has a previous refusal.
