Student visa (subclass 500)
A temporary visa to study a registered course in Australia.
OUR EXPERTISE
Subclass 500
Subclass 500 is for genuine study. The enrolment, the funds, the English level and the intention to study are the criteria we advise on.
Requirements
- Enrolment in a registered course, shown by a confirmation of enrolment.
- The genuine student requirement.
- English at the level the course and the visa require. The Department publishes the English levels.
- Funds for travel, tuition and living costs at the level the Department sets. The current level is on the Department’s subclass 500 page.
- Overseas student health cover for the length of the stay.
- Welfare arrangements if the student is under 18.
- Health and character requirements.
Genuine student
- The course fits the person’s previous study and their circumstances.
- The person knows the course and the provider.
- The immigration history is consistent with a temporary stay for study.
Dependants and guardians
- Family members can sometimes be included.
- A student who is under 18 and does not have a parent in Australia may need a student guardian visa.
- The visa is temporary. It is not a permanent visa.
