Skills assessments for points-tested visas
The skills assessment that a subclass 189, 190 or 491 invitation depends on.
OUR EXPERTISE
Points-tested visas
For a points-tested visa, a suitable skills assessment has to be held before the invitation. The assessing authority depends on the occupation.
The points that flow from that assessment are set out on the subclass 189 page.
When an assessment is required
- Subclass 189, 190 and 491 each require a suitable skills assessment at the time of invitation.
- The authority is the one designated for the occupation. It is not chosen by the applicant.
- The assessment has to cover the occupation that will be nominated.
What the assessment is used for
- It decides whether the qualification, and where claimed the employment, is suitable.
- Employment points start from the date the assessment treats the person as skilled.
- Work before that date is not claimed as skilled employment.
- A qualification assessment and an employment assessment are not the same document. The points claim decides which one is needed.
How we use it
- We match the authority to the occupation and to the visa.
- We read the outcome against the points that can actually be claimed.
- The scored points are on the subclass 189 page.
