From 7 August 2025, the Department of Home Affairs accepts:
- IELTS results that include One Skill Retake (OSR)
- Michigan English Test (MET) results that include Single Section Retake (SSR)
These results can be used for most Australian visa applications, with one key exception:
Visa Subclass 482 (TSS Visa)
This visa does not accept OSR or SSR results.
A legislative instrument requires applicants to provide English test scores from one single sitting only.
Rules Before 6 August 2025
For tests taken on or before 6 August 2025, IELTS OSR was accepted for visa purposes except for:
- Subclass 476
- Subclass 482
- Subclass 485
These visas also required English results from a single attempt.
Understanding IELTS OSR IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) allows you to:
- Retake one of the four IELTS components
(Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) - Retake it once only
- Complete the retake within 60 days of your original test
This option is helpful for applicants who performed well overall but need to improve one specific skill.
Understanding MET SSR MET Single Section Retake (SSR) allows you to:
- Retake one of the three MET components
(Listening, Reading, or Writing) - Retake it once only
- Complete the retake within 28 days of the original test
