Other family visas

These visas are for a particular family relationship, not for a general wish to join family in Australia. Places are limited. The relationship test is the thing we check first.

Remaining Relative

Subclass 115 offshore, and subclass 835 onshore.
The applicant and their partner have no near relatives outside Australia, other than those who are usually resident in Australia.
Near relatives include parents, siblings and children, including step-relatives of that kind.
An Australian relative sponsors the applicant.

Carer

Subclass 116 offshore, and subclass 836 onshore.
The Australian relative needs substantial, continuing assistance with everyday life because of a medical condition.
The assistance cannot reasonably be obtained from another relative in Australia or from services in Australia.
A medical assessment is part of the criterion. The carer is willing and able to give that assistance.

Orphan Relative

Subclass 117 offshore, and subclass 837 onshore.
The child is under 18 and unmarried.
The parents cannot care for the child, because they are dead, permanently incapacitated, or of unknown whereabouts.
An Australian relative sponsors the child.
