Child visas
Visas for a dependent child of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
OUR EXPERTISE
Child visas
A child visa is for a dependent child. The main question is whether the child is still dependent, and which subclass matches where the child is.
Requirements
- The parent who sponsors is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- The child is under 18, or is 18 to 25, a full-time student and financially dependent, or has a disability that stops them from working.
- The child is the child of the sponsor, including an adopted child where that visa applies.
- Consent of the other person who can lawfully decide where the child lives, where that consent is required.
- Health and character requirements.
Which child visa
- Subclass 101 is the offshore child visa.
- Subclass 802 is the onshore child visa, for a child who is in Australia.
- Subclass 102 is the adoption visa.
- Subclass 445 is for a dependent child of a person who holds a temporary partner visa.
Dependency
- For a child who is 18 or over, the evidence is about study, money, and who they rely on.
- For a child under 18, the evidence is about the relationship and the legal right to bring the child.
- We advise which subclass fits before an application is lodged.
