Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482)
A temporary visa for skilled workers sponsored by an approved Australian business.
OUR EXPERTISE
Subclass 482
Subclass 482 is the Skills in Demand visa. The streams are Core Skills, Specialist Skills, and labour agreements.
The Core Skills Income Threshold and the Specialist Skills Income Threshold are published in one place, on our FAQ. This page does not repeat the dollar figures.
Requirements
- An approved sponsor, or a party to a labour agreement.
- A nomination for a genuine position in the business.
- An occupation and a salary that fit the stream.
- The salary must also meet the market salary rate. The threshold figures are on our FAQ.
- English at the level the visa requires. The Department publishes what competent, proficient and superior English mean.
- A skills assessment where the stream or the occupation requires one.
- Health and character requirements.
The three streams
- Core Skills: the occupation is on the Core Skills Occupation List, and the salary is at or above the Core Skills Income Threshold and the market salary rate.
- Specialist Skills: the occupation is one the Specialist Skills stream covers, and the salary is at or above the Specialist Skills Income Threshold and the market salary rate.
- Labour agreements: the worker meets the terms of the employer’s labour agreement with the Department.
Sponsorship and nomination
- The employer’s sponsorship and the nomination are separate decisions from the visa.
- We advise which stream fits the role, and whether a skills assessment is required for that occupation.
- The visa is temporary. Permanent residence, where it is available, is a later visa such as subclass 186.
