Evidence of Australian citizenship
A citizenship certificate for a person who is already an Australian citizen.
OUR EXPERTISE
Evidence of citizenship
This is not an application to become a citizen. It is an application for a document that proves citizenship the person already holds.
Who this is for
- A person born in Australia who needs a certificate to prove they are a citizen.
- A person who became a citizen by descent, conferral or adoption and needs a replacement or a fresh certificate.
- A person whose citizenship needs to be evidenced for a passport or another official purpose.
What is required
- Evidence of identity.
- Evidence of how citizenship was acquired: birth, descent, conferral or adoption.
- The application form and the fee the Department sets.
What this is not
- It does not confer citizenship. Conferral is a different application.
- It does not replace a passport. A passport is applied for from the Australian Passport Office once citizenship can be shown.
